ABSTRACT

William Kirwan became the chancellor of the University System of Maryland in August of 2002. He came to Maryland from Ohio State University, where he had served as president for four years. Prior to that, he was the president of the University of Maryland College Park for ten years and, before assuming the presidency, had been a member of its faculty and an administrator since 1964, serving as provost and as the acting president. As chancellor, he oversees a system of thirteen institutions, which includes the University of Maryland at College Park.
