ABSTRACT

Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison David Ward became the president of the American Council on Education in 2001. The ACE, founded in 1918, includes members from all sectors of higher education, approximately 1,800 accredited, degree-granting colleges and universities, as well as many associations, organizations and corporations related to higher education. The association serves its members in articulating their consensus on issues in higher education, coordinating their efforts to influence public policy, and disseminating information to members and policy-makers on higher education concerns. Its areas of focus include: access, success, equity, and diversity; institutional effectiveness; lifelong learning; and internationalization.
