ABSTRACT

As the eighth chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, Robert Berdahl served from July of 1997 to June of 2004. He came to UC Berkeley from the University of Texas at Austin, where he had served as president since January 1993. As UT Austin’s president, Berdahl worked to establish a stronger sense of community on the campus, brought faculty together to articulate a set of core values, and created a master physical plan for the evolution of the campus. Prior to his presidency of UT Austin, Berdahl was the vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1986-1993. On the national scene, Berdahl served as chair of the board of directors of the Association of American Universities.
