ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores a fertile field for analysis of social and political change in Communist Party-states; and an integral part of the changing character of human life and social development in the societies. The present stage of history and of social and political development in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe confronts the Communist Party leaders with challenges which at first glance seem beyond their depth. The political leaders in the countries have been one among several major catalysts of social and political change. The traditional Communist mode of behavior is being increasingly perceived as inadequate for the complex tasks and difficult problems facing the leaders, and it is being slowly replaced. In an effective leadership study, leadership must be viewed as only part of the total social context.
