On the morning of September 11, 2001, nineteen men hijacked four airliners departing from American airports. They crashed two of the planes into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center; a third into the Pentagon; and a fourth in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, southeast of Pittsburgh. In all, the attacks claimed 3,062 lives.
