ABSTRACT

Having come this far in our discussion of how emotion is woven into the processes whereby images, signs, and symbols allow humankind to assign and attribute meaning to itself and to its environment, we must now try to see the larger pattern imprinted upon that fabric as language emerges. In other words, seen from the perspective of emotion and the contribution it makes to the evolution of languages, how does the evolution of language appear, and what do its contours tell us about the role emotion may have in language as we know it today?
