ABSTRACT
The theme is a very interesting challenge: we have more knowledge, we are living in a knowledge-based society, which is not only true for Europe but for the whole world. This global development raises the question: is there more freedom as a consequence? I think we are shifting between certainty and uncertainty. We have also more democracy. The number of democracies was never so high as it is now but by the influence of this development we have also a public, which operates by populism, sometimes contrary to knowledge. Aristotle stated that democracy is as far reaching as the voice of its herald.
