ABSTRACT

The concern of this paper is narrower than Hsu's hypothesis. We treat the possible effects of a heavy emphasis on the mother-son relation, of the type found in Hindu culture, on problem-solving strategies of sonsand eventually societies. Our expectation is that mother-son dominance produces unconscious feminine identification in males, and our task is to show that certain of the emphases of Hindu culture are similar to the behavior which, under controlled conditions, is associated wi th such identification.
