ABSTRACT
Undoubtedly Hsu has drawn attention to an important connection, the interlinkage between the interaction patterns in a kinship system, partic ularly in dominant kinship relationships, and the characteristic modes of behavior in a society as a whole. Several members of the symposium agreed that this was a useful starting point for an analysis of ethnographic data (see the summary remarks of Fernandez, Howard, Hunt, van der Veen).
