ABSTRACT
Djilali Arabidou was one of Algeria’s best-known photojournalists. The weekly newsmagazine where he worked, Algeria-Actualité, was known to be editorially sympathetic to the military government and its war against Islamist insurgents. In March 1996, in a quiet residential district outside Algiers, Arabidou was intercepted and shot dead by rebel gunmen.
