ABSTRACT

This book seeks to determine the extent and depth of Jewish power in America where the openness of society would presumably make its play more discernible. But where to seek it? We cannot count its divisions, as Stalin would have done at Yalta. American Jewry does not possess sovereign power, as do the Jews of Israel. There are no longer wealthy Jews like Jacob Schiff prepared to use their extraordinary political leverage to realize Jewish interests.1 With the exception of an overriding concern with the security of Israel, there are no public policy concerns that are not shared by other constituencies.
