ABSTRACT

The examination of the sexist Jewish joke will enable author to draw analogies between the sexist and racist joke, specifically between misogynist and anti-Semitic humor on the one hand, and Jewish and feminist responses to such jokes on the other. The joke that reduces a woman to the sum total of her limbs reflects a sexist sense of humor, just as a joke reducing a male Jew to the size of his penis and the shape of his nose reflects an anti-Semitic sense of humor. Jewish jokes will take a bold self-critical attitude in matters pertaining to Jewish religion, Jewish history, specific Jewish professions, Jewish paranoia, xenophobia and even anti-Semitism, but it is rare to find authentic Jewish jokes jibing at Jewish stereotypes as defined by anti-Semitic humor. Leonard Feinberg implies that sexual humor in all its guises is a healthy and normal expression of human drives.
