ABSTRACT

Addams’ relationships with the male Chicago sociologists have been examined in depth throughout this book. In this chapter, additional intellectual influences on her sociological thought are examined. These varied roots help to account for her unique sociology and her varied resources for studying social behavior. These further epistemological influences do not negate the influence of the male Chicago sociologists, but instead reveal the intellectual journey that characterized Addams’ quest for knowledge.
