ABSTRACT

During the period of turmoil that the Balkans underwent prior to the Berlin Congress in 1878, as an ethnic group, the Albanians raised the idea of drawing under the wings of their national identity (which, at that time, was in its fledgling stages), all of the Albanians in the Balkans, even beyond the geographical borders of Albania itself. The concept of “a greater Albania” was first raised by the “Albanian League,” which was established in Prizeren in 1878. However, this demand was never recognized by international powers and it thus remained a vision that could not be realized.
