ABSTRACT

To many Westerners traveling to the tropical, nonindustrial countries for the first time, it will seem that remarkably little has changed during the past hundreds, or even thousands, of years. In the agrarian countries men can be seen employing the same implements that were in use at the time of Christ or before. Asian villagers can be found using a type of potter’s wheel in use four thousand years ago, or tilling the fields with oxen, harness, and plow dating from the same period.
