ABSTRACT

It may seem that forty years after its publication, a book on international aid can only have historical relevance. However, though International Aid, by Ian M. D. Little and J.M. Clifford (published for the first time in 1965) is indeed an important landmark in the history of international economic relations, the book is also important for current discussions on foreign aid.1 Its senior author, Ian M. Little, 2 at the time of publication of International Aid was already a distinguished economist: in 1950 he published a critique of welfare economics that became a classic, with great influence in economics and economic policy.3
