ABSTRACT

Developmental criminology is concerned with the description and explanation of within-individual changes in deviant behavior along the life course. There are numerous theoretical and empirical publications on the development of general deviance, as sociologists label it, or problem behavior as it is called by psychologists. The analytical tools for the description of the developmental course of general deviance are well established. We have reviewed them with a particular attention to offending (Loeber & Le Blanc, 1990; Le Blanc & Loeber, 1998). Whatever the point of view on the development of deviant behavior, criminology is only considering solely the dependent variable.
