ABSTRACT

Culturelink is representative of the trend to create networks of networks in an effort to bring some rationality to the field. Its main function is to facilitate communication among its member networks and to bring the work of these networks to the attention of the broader community of researchers and practitioners. Culturelink was established jointly by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Council of Europe to promote cultural development and international cooperation. Culturelink has been funded by UNESCO to compile an International Compendium of Cultural Policies, which is available on its Web site. Culturelink sees its task as threefold: the exchange of information through its journal Culturelink, the establishment and development of databases, and international research in the field of cultural development and cooperation. Although Culturelink has organized some conferences and begun some documentation work, its primary output is its journal.
