ABSTRACT

Although printed books have been available for five and a half centuries and recordings for only little more than a century, more people listen to and view recordings than read newspapers, magazines, and books. Compact disks, CD players, cassette tapes, and cassette players can be purchased in nearly all communities. Most schools, governmental agencies, and modest-sized commercial companies have a library of recordings. Most of the sounds and sights broadcast by radio and television stations are prerecorded.
