ABSTRACT
In 1890 Charles H. Levermore wrote that half America’s businessmen and farmers accepted Carey’s ideas. Henry Ford was then twenty-seven years old. He was young and poor, but he knew exactly what he was going to do with his life. More than anyone else, he was the man who would transmute Carey’s ideas into concrete form. It would take time. For many years to come, America’s laws and social structure would still be much the same as those of Europe.
