ABSTRACT

The year 1930 is pivotal in Latin American history due to the number of regime changes that took place at that time or in its proximity as a result of the world economic crisis. The changes, however, were quite different in the various countries. The case of Argentina is typical of the generally accepted image of what happened that year. A popular government was overthrown by military intervention backed by the conservative classes, who attempted to create a system of limited participation, which preferably did not depend on elections, adopting some version of the corporatist institutions established in Italy.
