ABSTRACT
The Central American and Caribbean “backyard” has proven to be a more complex and conflicted region than what might have been supposed given a rather simple evolutionist or even Marxist perspective. In chapter 3 this subject was treated as requiring a “theoretical revision.” This chapter in turn will be devoted to an analysis of the region up to the present, always keeping a comparative approach to the rest of the continent.
