ABSTRACT

Martin Heidegger’s path has come to its end. What may one say at this end, over his coffin, in light of his death? Once a whole world listened to him. Perhaps at the news of his death it will listen once more. Perhaps, in face of this death which so moves us, silence would be more fitting than speech. On January 14 of this year Martin Heidegger granted him a long conversation, and he asked him to say a few words at his burial. Only for that reason do he presume to speak on this occasion. And what better thing could they do at this moment than to think once more about Heidegger's path and especially about his thoughts on death? Death, the shelter of Being, has carried off Martin Heidegger into the mystery of its hidden fullness. But stirred by the Gospel, may say with hope, "He who seeks shall find, he who knocks shall have the door opened".
