ABSTRACT

Some forty years ago I was sent a book on Nazi Germany for review which was of more than ordinary interest. The author was Ernst Nolte, a Heidegger student who after serving in the German army had taught at high school. The book (Three faces of fascism) showed a very good knowledge of various aspects of fascism, and even if some of the statements seemed far fetched and exaggerated, the critics showed attention and respect. A number of further studies by Nolte followed on Nazism and comparative fascism which were useful and significantly contributed to the study of fascism, which was in those years only at the beginning.
