ABSTRACT

The research on this book was done in the late 1970s and it was published in 1980. It appeared in French (Le terrifiant secret) and other languages the year after. It dealt with the question of how the news about the murder of European Jewry had become known outside the places where the killing had been perpetrated even though the Nazis had made an attempt to keep it secret. It also dealt with the reaction of secret services, governments, international institutions and people in general who received this information—did they accept and believe it, did they fully understand what they were reading and hearing, were there attempts to suppress it?
