ABSTRACT

During the twentieth and now twenty-first century, life has changed dramatically. The technological advances we have seen are mind-boggling, never to have been fully anticipated by even the most futuristic of futurists. This is true in the field of medicine as well. Even when I began studying medicine, we were only beginning to probe the depths of human health. The residuals of medieval medicine were still with us and in some ways are still around today in the alternate medicine practiced by many. This is not to ignore the fact that some herbal medicines are of benefit, though not to the extent espoused by some. But this is another whole topic too complex to review here.
