ABSTRACT

M y analysis of this book provides, i t seems, a finishing touch on the portrait I have drawn of Jung and my account of his break w i t h Freud. But in such matters no brush stroke is ever the last, and as long as one does not close one's m i n d to further evidence one keeps making discoveries. I must st i l l relate one such discovery. But first I want to ask why Answer to Job seems "beautiful" to the editor of The Portable Jung and many others. I t naturally appeals to people who share some of Jung's resentments, i f only those o f the O l d Testament and o f Protestantism, not to speak of the father.
