ThewarmintervalbetweentheDonaustageandtheGiinz Glaciationhasonlycometoberegardedasaninterglacialin recentyears.Glacialdeposits,suchasboulderclaysortills,are extremelydifficulttocorrelateoverlongdistances,forthey areusuallyunfossiliferousandvaryincharacterinaccordance withthetypesofrocktraversedbytheicewhichdeposited them,whereasinterglacialdepositsarerelativelyeasily identified,particularlyiftheycontainpollen-grains(asthey commonlydowhenacid).
