ABSTRACT

Finally, I have reached the end of my task and the time for a summing up. In these two volumes, I identified some prominent futurists, described the major features of the new field of futures studies, elaborated a theory of knowledge appropriate for investigating the future, gave a few exemplars and methods of futures research, enumerated some near-universal human values and assessed them objectively, showed how such values underlie images of desirable futures, and proposed that some traditional values be reassessed and possibly changed in order to meet the changing conditions of the twenty-first century.
