ABSTRACT

It is obvious that a history of art is concerned with art, history, and time; what may not be obvious is that our understanding of art, history, and time is central to how we understand - and conduct- our lives. We have seen that there exist within art the option of pursuing beauty, and also the option of pursuing aesthetics. For those who pursue aesthetics, beauty is but a fiction; for those pursuing beauty, aesthetics alone are shallow and violent. The same holds true for history—and time—as well.
