ABSTRACT

One wintry night in February of 1982, a friend and I accompanied Leslie Fielder to a reading and discussion he had agreed to do for inmates in a writing workshop at Attica Correctional Facility. The friend, Anne Pilger, was one of Leslie’s PhD students at the time and taught a creative writing workshop in what was then called Consortium College-a degreeconferring program that operated within the walls of Attica.
