ABSTRACT

Michael Peter Smith is a distinguished professor in urban and community studies at the University of California, Davis. Over the past three decades he has published twenty-five books and over eighty-five academic articles. His major books include: Transnational Urbanism: Locating Globalization (2001); City State, & Market (1988); and The City and Social Theory (1979, 1980). His most recent book, Citizenship Across Borders, co-authored with Matt Bakker, received the 2008 Outstanding Book Award of the Global Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems.
