ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a reading of eight professional plans produced in Western Australia between 1986 and 1990. I have usually cited them only by number in order to emphasize how similar they are. (See note 1; text citations to numbered plans are set in bold face.) 1 Their specific focus or provenance barely matters. I have read the texts with a sensibility that is both postmodern and feminist. My purpose in reading was to understand the ways in which women are presented in the worlds of these texts. 2 I looked at the substance of the plans, their rhetorical strategies, and the discourse within which they are written.
