ABSTRACT

Diplomatic work done within international organizations is called multilateral diplomacy. According to the Union of International Organizations, 7,080 of them existed in 2002. That big number is the more astounding, because international organizations are something quite new. International organizations embody the resolve for joint action. The Security Council of the United Nations embodies the resolve to avoid war. The World Trade Organization embodies the resolve to maintain world trade at a high volume. The World Health Organization embodies the accepted necessity to thwart global health threats. International organizations are tangible proof of this political consensus and they guarantee it with varying degree of efficiency. The staff in international organizations will have dealt with a certain issue for a long time. It will have acquired expert knowledge. Nations differ in their appreciation of resourceful persons as the heads of international organizations.
