ABSTRACT

Some academics decry the use of qualitative methodology and see it as merely subjective, but they are wrong. It is not the same type of science as quantitative surveys, but it clearly provides information. In this chapter, the author explains how he created other statements to represent the other qualities of dehumanization represented by the respondents. This led to the creation of the first Christian Dehumanization Scale (CDS). The chapter discusses two scales to compare the tendency of certain individuals to act out on their potential authoritarian impulses. But there is a need to measure how much they may act on those impulses. It is well-established that individuals who score high on the RWA scale show a willingness to use authoritarian power to suppress unconventional groups. In fact, that is basically how authoritarianism is defined. Perhaps those with a high level of CDS are just right-wing authoritarians.
