ABSTRACT
PSYCHIATRISTS increasingly recognize that epidemiology of mental disorders is something more than public health detective work, designed to ferret out the factors responsible for specific diseases with the purpose of applying controls and preventive measures against their action. Epidemiologists, through association with medical historians, psychiatrists, social scientists and psychologists, are obtaining clearer understanding of group characteristics of mental diseases.
