ABSTRACT

Cuban students have a long tradition of commitment to the struggle for political and human freedom, which has been waged since Cuba was a colony of Spain. The majestic University of Havana had fostered this spirit in the proud young people who traversed the campus, passing between the Greek columns which guarded the schools of arts, philosophy, law, architecture, and business and administration. Below these columns a statue of the alma mater wordlessly witnessed the student political activities that were often held on the 163-step escalinata.
