ABSTRACT

In Havana, the DR kept up its pressure on the government through demonstrations and acts of terrorism in coordination with the M-26-7. On November 27, 1956, for example, members of the FEU marched toward the monument which commemorated the students who died at the hands of the Spanish crown in 1871. In the ensuing confrontation, 17 police officers were wounded, several students were arrested, and José Antonio Echeverría suffered a brutal beating. 1
