ABSTRACT

In early 1957, Luis Chaviano’s 147 men trained at Trujillo’s Dominican Republic returned to Miami, Florida. The Dominican dictator and Batista had apparently agreed to follow a policy of nonaggression toward one another. Whatever the reason behind Trujillo’s decision to clear the Dominican army barracks of Battalion No. 4 of Cuban exiles, Carlos Prío was left with a large group of well-trained Cubans ready to join an invasion of the island.
