The essay on Husserl referred to in this letter was originally planned as a contribution to the Zeitschrift für Sozialforschung. When it was finished, the manuscript far exceeded the scope of an article and first appeared thirty years later in book form. 1 The reviews mentioned refer to books by Ernst Cassirer, Ernst Krenek and Siegfried Kracauer.
