At the end of this chapter readers will be able to:
understand the nature of cartels, and discuss their place in sport leagues and competitions
explain how sport cartels can use their monopoly power to increase revenue, constrain costs and generate large, and sometimes exploitative, profits
reveal the costs that sport cartels can impose on many of their stakeholders, especially players
appreciate the ways in which some aspects of cartel structures and conduct can be usefully employed to stabilize the financial operations of both clubs and leagues.
