ABSTRACT

Ultimately, effective coaching is about making decisions and the more effective these decisions, the greater the likelihood of success. Decision-making tools are crucial to effective coaching yet strength and conditioning is largely devoid of formal constructs around which to base decisions. Much of this is based around the belief that all decisions should be founded on science. Yet this approach doesn’t work well in the face of complexity. This chapter outlines decision-making tools drawn from a range of disciplines and provides a pathway via which a coach can make more informed and effective decisions.
