ABSTRACT
The decade of the seventies has begun on a note of crisis. Throughout the industrialized world there is tense concern over the challenge of the technological revolution and its threat to outmoded social and economic institutions. Thoughtful observers of the turbulent scene almost unanimously predict difficult, unsettled times ahead and foresee the capacity to adapt to accelerating technological change as the primary determinant of the tensions. People and institutions lacking this capacity will be the decade’s real victims.
