Seating Place the chairs you will use comfortably angled at approximately 90 degrees (when possible), so both people can make eye contact but not be looking directly at one another. Barriers, such as a table, should be removed if possible. It is also useful to simply ask the patient if s/he is comfortable with the seating arrangement – though you should always remember to place yourself in the chair with the easiest access to the exit and alarm buttons. That is not negotiable.
