ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on the spatial concept that plays a fundamental role through Carl Schmitt's work even before they appear as the explicit focus of his late writings. Methodologically, it focuses on Schmitt's writings rather than the secondary literature, in order to let Schmitt speak as far as possible. The book is organized chronologically in order to track the diverse and shifting influence throughout his corpus. It engages with Schmitt's writing, which follows the relation to the shifting historical and political context of their development, showing 'the spatial' lay at the core of his work and at the centre of his conceptualization of the political. The book discusses the objectives that understand the modalities by which Schmitt's ideas traveled internationally, generating an interdisciplinary debate on the political. This debate determines the 'geopolitics of translation' that concerns the work of other writers.
