ABSTRACT

When performing strength design of glass structures, dynamic impact load is one of the load cases which might be included in the analysis. At present strength design of glass structures may be performed by means of experimental tests. The European and Swedish standard SS-EN12600 (2003), is available to classify glass for impact strength. However, when performing strength design of glass structures, the geometry and support conditions of the structure may be different from those prescribed in the standard. The impactor described by the standard may be used to experimentally investigate the impact strength of various glass structures. The process of experimental testing is, however, time consuming when considering parameter variation in strength design.
