ABSTRACT: Up to now, curved glass as a building product has not been regulated by uniform standards in Germany. This applies to both annealed glass and tempered glass. Therefore, manufacturers who want to distribute and use their curved glass products in Germany have to apply for a general technical approval based on numerous experimental investigations. The testing programs for annealed and tempered glass differ, due to the varying characteristics of the two types of glass. The article describes the production of annealed single-axis curved glass as well as pre-stressed (tempered) curved glass, the respective particular mechanical properties resulting from these processes, and the required test programs. The test programs for both types of glass were coordinated with the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik – (DIBt) and evaluated by an independent authority.
