Judging qualitative research

There are various positions available to a qualitative researcher in relation to judging qualitative research and how validity is conceptualized. Although many sports coaching researchers still adopt a parallel approach when judging qualitative research, there are some who have reacted to the critiques and adopted different positions and strategies for judging qualitative research that call on different criteria in the process. Research that gets to the heart of a social issue, and does not get swamped with details that have no inherent significance and do little to increase the cogency of the research itself. It is important to stress that relativism does not mean that anything goes when it comes to making assessments about the quality of qualitative research. Incisiveness means that the work of research is penetrating; it is sharp in the manner in which it cuts to the core of an issue.
