ABSTRACT

Schools commonly partner with cultural organizations and museums to enhance the curriculum and learning experiences of students. The partnering teacher education institute website contains the following explanation: students are allowed to engage in contextualized learning, making connections between the different spheres of their learning, between what happens in class to what happens outside the curriculum hours. The school and the teacher education institute are located at opposite ends of the island of Singapore, so distance was not a deterrent to the active institutional partnering that occurred. The partnership was established as a center that was named the Center for Educational Research and Application (CERA). CERA is a model that could be implemented in other countries in Asia, as well as in other parts of the world. Government educational initiatives for the use of technology in classrooms supported by a partnership between schools and teacher education colleges can go a long way toward bridging theory and practice.
