ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 addressed basic characteristics and skills that are helpful for leaders of all types of groups. This chapter focuses on skills and techniques that can be facilitative for open groups with their unique qualities. Seven skills and techniques are presented, each with a rationale for its usefulness and importance, and some have an illustrative activity. Many of these are related to leaders' emotional and psychological states and the extent of their personal growth and development, which are not skills or techniques that can be taught.
